Elena Marsh
Elena grew up in the desert light of northern New Mexico, and it never left her. After years shooting editorial across the West, she came home to Santa Fe to photograph the faces and places that keep that light.
She works slowly and lightly, directing only enough to find the real thing. Her photographs are printed to be kept - which is the whole point.
The light first
Every frame starts with finding the light - the one hour that makes a face or a mesa unforgettable.
Unposed where it counts
I direct lightly and wait for the real thing. The best photographs are the ones people forgot were being taken.
A body of work, not a feed
I take on a limited number of commissions a year so each one gets the same unhurried attention.
